Experience some pretty good single vineyard boutique wines at our unique cellar door, in a lovely country setting in rural Pokolbin in the Hunter Valley.

Our physical cellar door is at 530 Hermitage Rd, Pokolbin - and is open most Saturdays and Sundays. Our wine is only available through the cellar door, or direct by ordering from the vineyard - see Order Wine Tab. One little quirk - we have the only boutique cellar door with a Rugby Union flavour in the valley. With great Hunter wines!


From July 1 we are emphasising tastings by appointment, with appropriate food and wine matchings available in our private cellar facility.  We welcome small groups and friends of Wombat, and ask that you book ahead to arrange a suitable time during the week or weekends.  Structured cheese and wine tastings are available; alternatively choose a private session with a full anti-pasto plate and matching wines available for $30 per head - enough for lunch!  You can be either inside the cellar door by the fire, or outside near the dam - depending on the weather.  

 

We also welcome you to book to stay at The Burrows for an exceptionally private and relaxing weekend in the quieter side of Pokolbin (available for 2 couples for weekend stays, or by arrangement during the week.)


Wombat Crossing Vineyard is one of the Hunter Valley's smallest boutique producers of fine table wines. Wombat is about 9kl from the centre of Pokolbin, so you can enjoy our less crowded country while receiving individual attention from our sommelier or owner.  The range of wines shown is modest in size but exceptional in quality.  Our vineyards were established in 1996, planted to the traditional forte of varieties for the Hunter Valley - Semillon, Shiraz and Chardonnay.  The first wines under our label were vintaged in 2005.  Each wine inherits its characteristics from the soils in its individual (single) paddock vineyard, naturally varied by the climate experienced during that vintage at our property.  At Wombat you taste the terroir in the wine!

  • Members are invited to plan a picnic at Wombat when you are next in the valley.  We have a great offer that includes wine from Wombat and food from Julz at Cracked Pepper, and a very pleasant table either by the dam or overlooking the fields.  Please contact us and we will make the arrangements.
